The Sedibeng health district has announced the closure of Johan Heyns community health centre in Vanderbijlpark, south of Johannesburg due to hazardous conditions.

Johan Heyns community health centre in Vanderbijlpark south of Johannesburg has had to shut its doors due to unsafe and hazardous conditions.

The facility, located in Pasteur Boulevard, under Emfuleni local municipality is grappling with a range of issues, including a lack of running water and electricity, making it unfit for operation.

In a media statement issued dated Wednesday, January 17, the district said the facility currently does not have any power which is affecting health services provided at the facility.

According to acting chief director Makibiti Madolo, the emergency unit, maternity unit and primary health care services are temporarily closed.

Sedibeng health district said all patients booked for their chronic medication will receive their medication however until then patients have been advise to go to alternative health care facilities.

She further revealed that all patients booked for their chronic medication will receive their medication.

“Until further notice, we urged patients to utilize close by facilities which are: Driehoek clinic, Bophelong CDC, Sharpeville CHC and Boipatong CHC for health care services,” she stated.

Madolo assured the community of Emfuleni that the electrical fault is urgently being attended to.

She added; “The contractor is appointed, and the situation is monitored closely. Updates on the situation will be communicated accordingly.”

Meanwhile, the South African Air Force have confirmed the murder of one of its member from their Hoedspruit Base in Limpopo in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to Brigadier General Andries Mokoena Mahapa, the member was allegedly shot following an altercation outside a local police station.

He further added that investigations by the police and military agency are currently underway.
