This is a Women’s Month initiative aimed at restoring dignity and empowering underprivileged girls through access to essential menstrual hygiene products.

“It was about more than just donations; it was about restoring dignity and confidence to young women and girls who often face challenges many of us take for granted,” said Carnival City‘s project leader, Mduduzi Madonsela.

“I am incredibly proud of Carnival City employees for embracing this initiative with such compassion. Their support shows the power of unity and empathy in driving positive change.”

Assistant teacher Philile Mbendeni expressed her gratitude, saying she was delighted by the visit from the Carnival City team and deeply appreciated the thoughtful gesture extended to the learners.

The month-long drive encouraged employees to donate sanitary pads and other hygiene essentials.

In response to their generosity, more than 170 packs of sanitary products were collected and distributed to approximately 150 learners at the school.

The Sanitary Drive 2025 – Empower Her Dignity forms part of the casino’s ongoing commitment to community upliftment, social responsibility, and women’s empowerment.

Face each day with dignity

Through collective action, the initiative made a meaningful impact, ensuring that more young women can face each day with dignity, confidence, and hope.

In June this year, more than 470 Grade 6 and 7 girl-learners at three schools in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni received a donation of 3,600 packs of sanitary pads in total during a Tiger Brands educational drive. Girl-learners each receive several packs, while their schools receive additional stock for their future needs.

Girl learners from Gahlanso Primary, Nyiko Primary, and Thuthuka Primary, identified in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education and Tiger Brands’ premium bread brand, Albany, attended an educational talk on the female reproductive process and received information on menstrual hygiene facilitated by local NGO, Abundance in Light.

Meanwhile, Economic Freedom Fighters [EFF] leader, Julius Malema, wants children from poor families to receive free sanitary pads and school uniforms.

Malema highlighted the importance of providing free sanitary products to ensure girls can attend school without interruption or shame.

He said it is unacceptable for poor people to be forced to pay for essential items such as sanitary towels, which can lead to girls missing school during their menstrual cycle.

“We want our children to regain their dignity so whenever they are on their period they aren’t forced not to go to school and use things that might damage them and put their lives in danger due to not having sanitary towels.”
