The Advisory Panel for the selection of the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), have extended the selection process to broaden candidate pool.

This follows a meeting convened by the Panel’s Chairperson, Justice and Constitutional Development Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi, on Monday, to consider the screening of applicants and nominated candidates for the position of National Director of Public Prosecutions.
“Given the importance of and national footprint of the Head of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the Panel felt that it is important to extend the recruitment process so as to broaden the pool of candidates.
“In this regard, the Panel resolved to write to the Legal Practice Council (LPC) to extend the call for nominations to all law bodies, in order to broaden the pool of eligible candidates.Â
“The bodies will be given until the 24th November 2025 to submit their nominations. The Panel will meet within the week of the 24th to conduct shortlisting of candidates,” he explained.Â
Manase stated that the Panel further resolved that all nominated individuals must formally accept their nomination in writing, and that all nominations with supporting documents must be submitted.

He added that the panel reviewed its timetable with publishing of shortlisted names for public comments set for 26 November – 2nd December 2025 whilst Interviews will take place between 10 – 12 December 2025.
Manase continued; “The Panel will submit its recommended to the President following the completion of the process and confirms that this will be done within the timeframe required by the President, despite the revised schedule.”

According to Terrence Manase, Spokesperson to the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, during today’s sitting, the Panel considered 27 applications and nominations received, of which only six met the minimum requirements.Â
