With the festive season upon us, Pikitup has urged the residents of City of Johannesburg to desist from showering its employee with Christmas gifts.

The waste management entity said the request aligns with its policy which strictly prohibits employees from soliciting or accepting gifts from the public.
According to Pikitup, the policy aims to protect residents and uphold its reputation, particularly in light of past incidents where individuals impersonating employees exploited the festive season to commit criminal acts.
Such impersonations have led to fraudulent activities, compromising community safety, Pikitup’s Muzi Mkhwanazi added.
Residents coerced into providing gifts
He said, in addition they have received complaints from residents alleging that some employees have engaged in intimidating behaviour, coercing residents into providing gifts during this period.
“These actions are unacceptable and do not reflect Pikitup’s value or standards of service. The company remains committed to fostering a safe and professional relationship between its employees and the communities it serves,” he remarked.

Mkhwanazi encouraged residents to report any incidents of intimidation, harassment, or suspicious behaviour to their call centre.
Furthermore, he appealed to residents who will be generating excess waste during the festive holiday season to use its integrated waste facilities to dispose of the additional waste.
