Born with a condition that prevents him from walking or using his hands fully, he has always relied on others for even the simplest daily activities, from being fed to being moved around.

Earlier this year, his already fragile health took a devastating turn when he developed epilepsy, resulting in frequent and unpredictable seizures. During one of these episodes, Sipho fell and dislocated his hip.

Although he was rushed to the hospital, doctors were unable to successfully reset the bone, leaving him in constant pain and making mobility even more difficult.

His mother, Mbali Mkhwanazi, an employee at Masana Cleaning Company, which is contracted to Carnival City, feared deeply for her son’s future.

She desperately sought medical support, assistive devices, and ongoing care to ease Sipho’s suffering and restore some dignity to his daily life.

Her pleas initially went unheard until the Sun Carnival City Community Trust stepped in, offering the family the urgent support they needed.

Among the most impactful interventions was the donation of a specialised wheelchair valued at over R20 000, a life-changing device the family could not have afforded.

“I was so happy when I received the wheelchair from the Sun Carnival City Community Trust,” an emotional Mbali said.

“May the Lord bless them for the good they have done for my son. It will make things much easier for me when taking Sipho to the clinic and for his check-ups.”

Trustee Abbey Witbooi said the organisation felt compelled to act after learning of the family’s hardship.

They identified the need and were honoured to be part of the team that stepped in when it mattered most.

Dignity campaign

Their commitment to community upliftment continues. Just days ago, the casino wrapped up its Sanitary Drive at Kgothalang Primary School in Wattville, reinforcing its support for the Empower Her Dignity campaign.

This was a Women’s Month initiative aimed at restoring dignity and empowering underprivileged girls through access to essential menstrual hygiene products.

The initiative made a meaningful impact, ensuring that more young women can face each day with dignity, confidence, and hope.
