The reality TV star, real name Ann Makgotso Mofokeng, 38, is facing a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

She was arrested on Sunday for an alleged incident that occurred on 17 December 2019, in Dlamini, Soweto.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority’s Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, Mofokeng allegedly used a bottle to assault the complainant, striking her in the mouth.

During the bail hearing, the prosecution presented evidence suggesting she had previously attempted to intimidate witnesses in the assault case.

Maweni’s defense team denied these claims, arguing that she was a respected member of the community with strong ties to South Africa.

Gogo Maweni is a flight risk

Magistrate John Khaye cited concerns about her being a flight risk and the potential for interference with witnesses as reasons for the decision.

“The matter was previously provisionally closed due to the untraceability of the complainant. However, further investigations have led to the Maweni’s arrest and court appearance.

“The case has been postponed to 27 January 2025, for bail application and profiling of the accused,” Mjonondwane explained.

Meanwhile, the Pretoria high court postponed the corruption and money laundering case against the former National Assembly Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to 28 March.

This is for the state and her legal representative to discuss her request for further disclosures following her application to have disclosures of “B” and “C” sections of the docket which contain correspondence and the investigation diary, respectively, said Henry Mamothame, IDAC Spokesperson.

He added that the IDAC followed this approach in the interest of justice, in a sincere attempt to narrow the facts at issue and to move the matter to trial as soon as possible.

Mapisa-Nqakula’s R50 000 bail was extended until the next court appearance.
