The ANC Gauteng Provincial Task Team (PTT) says it recognize the historic election of Loyiso Masuku as the first woman to serve as Regional Chairperson of the ANC in Greater Johannesburg.

This emanates from the 16th Regional Conference of the ANC Greater Johannesburg Region, which took place from December 3 to 5, at Cedarwood Hotel in Sandton.

The conference was centered around the theme, “The Year of Renewal: Making the ANC a More Effective Instrument of the People to Achieve the Vision of the Freedom Charter.”

The opening of the Conference was led by ANC Gauteng PTT Co-Convener, Panyaza Lesufi, who highlighted several critical priorities.

These include the necessity to enhance the programme of organisational renewal, rebuild and consolidate the Alliance, restore community trust through meaningful service delivery improvements, and reposition the ANC as the central strategic power within society.

His message established a tone for the conference that was marked by discipline, active political participation, and a revitalized sense of purpose.

Loyiso Masuku ousts Dada Morero

Delegates have elected a new regional collective, comprised of Chairperson – Loyiso Masuku, Deputy Chairperson Masilo Serekele, Regional Secretary – Sasabona Manganye, Deputy Regional Secretary – Lerato K. Bop, and Regional Treasurer – Maxwell Nedzamba.

In her closing remarks, the newly elected Chair expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dada Morero and the entire 15th Regional Executive Committee for their leadership during a challenging period, emphasizing Morero’s discipline and commitment in maintaining the organization’s stability.

She concluded by referencing Lilian Ngoyi’s powerful statement, asserting, “I am a woman of action. I cannot sit down and fold my hands while others are busy making history.” This highlights the importance of actively participating in the formation of one’s legacy.

The ANC Gauteng PTT praised the Greater Johannesburg Region for successfully conducting a peaceful and participatory conference.

ANC Gauteng Provincial Spokesperson, Mzi Khumalo, highlighted that this event is celebrated as a significant milestone for gender equality and the promotion of women’s leadership within the organization.

“This achievement represents the third consecutive regional conference in Gauteng, following Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng, which contributes to enhanced organizational stability throughout the province.

“We are confident that the newly elected leaders will address the critical initiatives of renewal, enhance organizational capacity, improve service delivery, and restore public trust in Johannesburg.

“We express our unwavering commitment to the region as it strives to enact the resolutions established by this significant conference,” he added.

Khumalo stated the Conference discussions were anchored in the Regional Base Document, which provided a robust political and organizational analysis for all Commissions.

Key thematic areas highlighted in the document included: Organizational Renewal and its associated challenges, the impact of Communication in the Digital Age, the ANC’s approach to the Economy, strategies for Fundraising and Organizational Sustainability, societal Transformation, Elections Strategy and Alliance Relations, and International Relations.

Khumalo continued, “The Conference reviewed and adopted end-of-term reports that highlighted achievements, obstacles, and future strategies.

“These included the Political Report by Dada Morero, the Organisational Report by Sasabona Manganye, and the Treasurer’s Report by Maxwell Nedzamba.

“The insights from these reports were integral in formulating resolutions and directing the region’s future initiatives.”
