Former Ekurhuleni City Manager Dr Imogen Mashazi has been condemned for her behavior during testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria.
On Monday, Mashazi was cross examined over her alleged shielding of suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi, who allegedly has links to criminal suspect Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.
Mashazi has told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that she was blocked from acting on what she called the ‘systemic abuse of power’ by Chief of Police Isaac Mapiyeye.
She testified that it had been reported to her that Mapiyeye had fathered multiple children with subordinates who were vulnerable to his alleged abuse of power, including sexual harassment, coercion and rape.
She also accused the commission of prejudicing her, claiming she was not given enough time to prepare her testimony.
Activists and Citizens Forum Spokesperson, Dennis Bloem, said the disrespect and arrogance of the retired manager is despicable and such behavior must not be accepted or tolerated.
According to Bloem, the unacceptable behavior that Dr Mashazi has displayed before the commission, raised a lot of questions.
“If she is treating a High Court Judge and his commissioners like trash, how did she treat the broader residents and the ratepayers of Ekurhuleni Municipality,” he asked.

Bloem stated that they want to believe the evidence presented by the EMPD officials before the Madlanga Commission.
He added; “Our decision flows from the arrogant and disrespectful behavior of Dr Mashazi.
Madlanga Commission urged to crack the whip
“It is for the first time since the commission was listening to evidence, that we witnessed such disgusting behavior from a witness.
“We urge Judge Madlanga and his fellow Commissioners to make it very clear to any witness that appears before the commission that disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.”
