Former Emfuleni mayor Mlungisi Hlongwane has ascended to the chairmanship position of ANC in Sedibeng following a Regional Conference held at the ANEW Hotel in Benoni, Ekurhuleni.

The Conference held under the theme: “Building People’s Power Towards a Capable and an Inclusive Vaal Regional Economy” was attended by the ANC Gauteng Provincial Task Team (PTT) Co-Convener Panyaza Lesufi.
Lesufi was accompanied by Hope Papo, the PTT Coordinator including the PTT and NEC deployees to the region, officially opened the Conference on Friday, 21 November.
Among those elected as the regional leadership collective, are Sibongile Soxuza (Deputy Chairperson), Jason Mkhwane (Regional Secretary), Mamohale Moloi (Deputy Secretary) and Hassan Mako (Treasurer).
According to Mzi Khumalo, ANC Gauteng Provincial Spokesperson, this marked another peaceful and progressive conference organised by the regional leadership of Sedibeng since the last Regional Conference in 2022.
“This was evidenced by the high level of discipline and active participation of delegates throughout the Conference in Commissions and plenary sessions.
“To that extent, Conference delegates – in their adopted resolutions and Declaration – focused on organisation renewal, economic transformation, social transformation, service delivery and good governance,” he stated.
Revitalising Sedibeng industrial base
Khumalo highlighted that some of the key priorities from the delegates were to revitalise Sedibeng’s industrial base, attracting new industries while supporting the expansion of existing ones.
In his closing remarks on Sunday, the newly elected Regional Chairperson, reminded the Conference about the words of ANC President O.R Tambo by quoting that “The ANC is not a political party in the ordinary sense of the word. It is a force for liberation, an instrument of the people, at the service of the people”.
“Therefore, our main thrust must be the unwavering building of a strong ANC, based on concrete organisational programmes that address the direct needs of the people.
“The ANC must be the vehicle that carries not only hope, but the concrete and practical affirmation of a better life for all,” he remarked.
