Chippa United FC have announced the departure of head coach Kwanele Kopo following the non-renewal of his contract which comes to an end on Tuesday.
The Uitenhage-born mentor, joined the Chilli Boys in January 2024 on a one-year contract after being sacked by Pretoria Callies in November following poor results after failing to secure solitary win.
According to the club, Kopo opted not to extend his tenure with the club, despite being offered a contract renewal six months ago, citing a desire to return to Johannesburg to focus on his family and personal priorities.
The Gqeberha-based outfit said Thabo September, who has had an impactful journey with the team will take over as the reigns and will be supported by newly appointed assistant coach Mabhuti Khenyeza.
Khenyeza, who recently left Golden Arrows – brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his illustrious career as both a player and a coach.
In a statement issued, Chippa United bade Kopo farewell adding that he played a pivotal role in the team’s journey this past year.
“His departure marks the end of a successful chapter in his coaching career and an important phase in the evolution of Chippa United FC. We respect his decision and express our heartfelt gratitude for his leadership, professionalism, and the progress achieved under his guidance.

“We wish coach Kopo every success in his future endeavours and thank him for his invaluable contributions to our club,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, Owen da Gama has returned to top flight football as coach of Carling Knock-out Cup champions, Magesi FC.
Affectionately known as the ‘Rubber doll’, da Gama’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the Limpopo-based club as they aim to stabilise their coaching staff and improve their position on the Betway Premiership log.

The 63-year-old, who was sitting in the stands when Magesi lost 1-0 to Orlando Pirates at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday takes over from Clinton Larsen who resigned two weeks ago.
Da Gama, who was a prolific striker in the 1980s coached Highlands from September 2017 to January 2021 and TS Galaxy in 2021.
