A multidisciplinary operation in Sebokeng has led to the identification of suspects connected to house and business robberies, Cash-In-Transit (CIT) heists, and hijackings.

A coordinated effort by various law enforcement agencies targeted suspects using a Mazda CX-5 for crimes, focusing on collaboration to track and apprehend them effectively.

According to reports, the team located the vehicle in Sebokeng as the suspects were allegedly planning to commit a robbery. 

“The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which had false registration plates, leading to a high-speed chase and shootout. 

“The suspects’ vehicle subsequently came to a standstill in a nearby river, and the suspects exited the vehicle and continued firing at law enforcement officers.

A string of business robberies

“Two suspects were fatally wounded during the exchange, while a third suspect managed to evade arrest. The suspect has been identified, and tracing operations are underway.

“Two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, explosives, a Mazda CX-5, false registration plates, cellphones, and hand gloves were recovered,” the statement read.

Police investigations have linked suspects and a recovered vehicle to several serious crimes, including business robberies in Vanderbijlpark and Carletonville, as well as a CIT and pavement robbery in De Deur.

Investigations are ongoing to link the suspects to additional crimes, while efforts to capture the remaining suspect continue.
