Marumo Gallants Football Club has officially appointed Phuti Mohafe as the new head coach of the club, marking a significant change in leadership within the team.

The 52-year-old Limpopo native has been appointed ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, following an impressive track record at Polokwane, where he achieved three consecutive top-eight finishes.
During his time at Polokwane City, he was instrumental in the club’s advancements and competitive achievements in the Premier Soccer League, contributing to their overall development and success in recent seasons.
He replaces Jamil Benouahi, who had a brief tenure at the club, having joined during the second round of the season but only participating in one match while seated on the bench.
Mohafe joins Marumo Gallants from Polokwane City F.C., where he served as head coach and played a significant role in the club’s recent progress and competitive performances in the Premier Soccer League.
He faces a significant challenge in transforming Gallants into a more competitive team after narrowly avoiding relegation last season. The team concluded the season in 14th place on the league table, accumulating a total of 25 points.
Their record comprised just four wins, alongside 13 draws and 13 defeats, over the course of 30 matches.
Mohafe looks to build on top-eight legacy
“Bahlabane ba Ntwa,” said Mohafe, who is widely respected within South African football circles and brings a wealth of coaching experience, strong leadership qualities, and an in-depth understanding of the local football landscape.
“The club believes that Mohafe’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Marumo Gallants as the team continues to strengthen its ambitions both on and off the field.
