This comes after Dr Sifiso Maseko, who previously held the position, requested to be relieved from his responsibilities following his resignation on Tuesday.

Dr Maseko was on suspension at the Gauteng department of health pending an internal disciplinary process which has been concluded, the party confirmed.

The Jacob Zuma-led organisation said that they accepted Maseko’s request to resume his work as chief director in the department and will retain his responsibilities as a member of the national high command.

“The president and national officials will inline with the constitution of the organisation announce the necessary changes pertaining to the vacant role of the national organiser.

“The president commends commander Maseko for paying an important role in the life of the organisation and expressess full confidence in Shivambu and the entire leadership of MK Party,” the statement read.

Reacting to the news of the new role, the former EFF deputy president who was initially tasked with the role of national organiser said he welcomes the responsibility of SG with utmost humility.

Shivambu highlighted that as a collective, they are aware that amongst the many tasks and responsibilities they have as an organisation is the obligation to unite.

Building MK Party to be a responsive government

“We commit that we will work with optimal dedication, focus, respect, ideological and political clarity, and towards unity of all the progressive forces.

“We commit to the leadership of uMkhonto weSizwe, the entire membership and the people of South Africa that we will build a formidable organisation which has the capacity to win elections outrightly and is able to provide responsive and responsible government.

“The understanding of the role of Secretary General is that we are going to the ground to interact with our people and not be locked in air-conditioned offices. We will never disappoint and victory is certain,” he remarked.

Shivambu reiterated the call for the unification of all progressive forces to advance the cause of total liberation and emancipation of the people.

He added; “We cannot stand back and fold our arms when vestiges of colonialism and apartheid continue to systematically manifest themselves in our daily lives experiences.

“We are looking forward to the massive qualitative and quantifiable growth that the organisation is undergoing, and we will have adequate collective capacity to manage and guide all its members and leadership.”
