Cops nab 3 suspects wanted for hijacking, murder case in Orange Farm

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) apprehended three suspects on Tuesday wanted for a vehicle hijacking and murder case in Orange Farm.

According to police reports, these arrests emanates from an ongoing investigation.

JMPD Spokesperson, Superintendent Xolani Fihla, said whilst conducting patrols in Hillbrow, officers identified a blue BMW 3 Series that matched the description of a vehicle involved in the crime.

Adding that upon further investigation, officers questioned the occupants of the vehicle, who were unable to provide proof of ownership.

“A subsequent vehicle check confirmed the BMW’s link to an open case at Orange Farm SAPS.

“The investigation expanded, leading to the seizure of three additional vehicles linked to hijacking incidents, a white BMW 3 Series, a silver Toyota Corolla, and a silver Mercedes Benz.

“Furthermore, officers recovered two 9mm pistols, fourteen cell phones, and six watches,” he explained.

Fihla stated that the three suspects were detained at Orange Farm police station.

He continued; “They are facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of hijacked motor vehicles, possession of suspected stolen property, and murder.”

Meanwhile, two persons were arrested for possession of drugs by the Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) in Coronationville, west of Johannesburg on Wednesday night.

Police provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said that whilst conducting a routine patrol in the area, the unit observed two male individuals, aged 20 and 55, with suspicious behaviour.

“Upon noticing the AGU members approaching, the individuals attempted to distance themselves by walking towards the Slovo Squatter Camp.

Suspects found in possession of drugs

“Demonstrating commendable vigilance, AGU members followed the suspects, who ultimately entered a nearby shack. The members identified themselves and requested permission to search, which was granted by the individuals,” he remarked.

Masondo revealed that the search yielded significant results, as one of the suspects was found in possession of 30 halves of mandrax tablets, while the second suspect had three zip lock bags containing substances suspected to be crystal meth.

He added; “In accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act, Act 51 of 1977, the AGU members seized the exhibits and informed the duo, aged 20 and 55, of their arrest for possession of drugs.

“The suspects were transported to the nearest police station, where they were detained for the charges of possession of drugs. They are expected to appear before the respective court soon.”
