Seven heavily armed suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) operations officers in Eldorado Park, on Saturday night.

According to the JMPD, while conducting routine patrols in Ward 119, officers received information from members of the community regarding a silver Toyota Avanza, involved in armed robberies in the area.
“Acting swiftly on this information, officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Golden Highway and Union Avenue, where a thorough search of the vehicle revealed five unlicensed firearms, three live ammunition and two knives.
“Officers also recovered two wallets containing bank cards, three cell phones (Apple, Samsung, and Huawei), a pair of scissors, a school bag, and a hookah pipe.
“It was further discovered that the vehicle the suspects were using was stolen. All seven male suspects were arrested and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS.
“The stolen vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Lenasia vehicle pound for further verification.

“The suspects face charges of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, JMPD chief of police, Chief Patrick Jaca, highlighted that this successful operation is a testament to the dedication and vigilance of officers and the invaluable partnership they have with the community.
