MK Party suspends Mokoena-Zondi amid corruption probe
Corruption allegations lead to Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi’s suspension from MK Party.

Mokoena-Zondi is currently released on bail set at R30,000 following her arrest for extorting funds from the parliamentary staff of her political party.

She took office as the National Assembly Chief Whip for the MK Party in February 2026, which highlights her significant role within the party at a national level.

The situation raises concerns regarding her conduct and its implications for her political career and party reputation.

MKP announced that Jacob Zuma, the president of the party, held a meeting with the national officials on Tuesday, during which several significant decisions were made.

National Spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu said Mokoena-Zondi has had her membership in the party suspended immediately.

“This suspension is pending the results of an internal investigation that has been initiated in response to allegations of corruption against her.

Mahlangu stated that Philasande Mkhize has been appointed as chief whip, effective immediately. He further placed it on record that Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla holds no official position or responsibility within the party.

Mahlangu added, “Her role is limited to that of an ordinary party member, and she does not exercise any authority on behalf of the party.”
