The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has made two additional arrests in connection with a case involving alleged fraud, theft and tampering with essential infrastructure at the Emfuleni Local Municipality.

The two suspects were arrested on Sunday morning, during an operation conducted in Vanderbijlpark.
These developments indicate an ongoing investigation into corrupt activities within the local government framework, highlighting the efforts of the PKTT in addressing such serious concerns.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe has confirmed that the two individuals under investigation are employed within the municipality’s Revenue and Electricity Department.
“Their arrests bring the total number of suspects arrested in connection with this investigation to seven,” she added.
The first five employees were arrested during an operation in Vanderbijlpark on Friday.
Greed fuels infrastructure sabotage
Preliminary investigations have uncovered that certain employees are accused of misrepresenting themselves to municipal clients as authorised officials capable of reconnecting electricity supplies that had previously been cut off.
These employees allegedly directed clients to deposit funds into their personal bank accounts in return for these unlawful reconnections.

Furthermore, the suspects face allegations of illegally reconnecting the electricity without obtaining the necessary municipal authorisation, which has led to unapproved usage and subsequent financial losses for the municipality.
All seven suspects are expected to appear before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
