Security beefed up ahead of MTN8 Cup Final

The stage is set as law enforcement agencies have put safety and security measures in place to ensure the successful hosting of the MTN8 Cup Final match.

Orlando Pirates will lock horns with Mamelodi Sundowns at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban on Saturday evening.

Although, they lost their second leg match against Stellenbosch FC at Orlando Stadium, Soweto however Bucs advanced to the final on away goal rule of 2-2 on aggregate.

Whilst Sundowns beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 on aggregate with a second leg match marred by controversy following poor match officiating.

Bafana ba Style will be looking to avenge their semi-final exit at the hands of Ezimnyama Ngenkani last season.

Just over fifty thousand spectators are expected to witness the match live with match tickets sold out hardly a day after they went on sale.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda urged fans to make their way to the stadium early to avoid delays due to traffic congestion.

“Law enforcement agencies have been deployed accordingly in order to safeguard the fans, players and officials from both clubs and all interested parties.

“Although the Metro Police have confirmed that no road closures will be effected on the day, police-manned stop and searches should be expected in order to ascertain that vehicles and persons getting into the stadium are cleared of any prohibited items.

“Dangerous weapons inclusive of firearms, knives and bottles are not allowed inside the stadium,” he said.

Col Netshiunda stated that police visibility will be maintained in and around the stadium, with the traffic officials manning the main routes leading to the stadium before, during and after the match.

Supporters are sensitised not to buy counterfeit tickets from criminals as there are no more match tickets available.

The gates will be opened at 14:00 on Saturday.
