Stellenbosch FC has announced the permanent signing of Ashley Du Preez from Kaizer Chiefs, marking his return to the club for a second spell.
The Idas Valley-born star returns to the Club for a second spell after beginning his professional career with Stellenbosch FC in 2016.
Du Preez made 98 appearances during his six-year tenure at the Club before moving to Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2022-23 season.
The 29-year-old player, who spent four years at Naturena, contributed significantly to the Amakhosi’s victory in the 2025 Nedbank Cup.
He has now made a noteworthy return to the Winelands, securing a long-term deal with the Maroons.
Du Preez expressed that he always anticipated returning to Stellenbosch, indicating a strong connection and commitment to the place.
“It’s great to be back where I grew up and at the Club where it all started for me and to be part of the Stellenbosch family again.
“The community knows me well and has supported me since the start of my professional career, so being a local player and representing the Club again is a huge honour and privilege for me. It’s an amazing feeling to be back.”
Du Preez’s special relationship with Stellies
Stellenbosch FC’s CEO, Rob Benadie, expressed enthusiasm regarding Ashley’s return to the club, emphasizing the special relationship he has maintained with both the team and the Stellenbosch community.
Benadie articulated the club’s excitement about bringing him back home.
“He is also an exceptional footballer who has consistently proven his quality in the Betway Premiership over a number of years, and we believe he will add enormous value to our squad both on and off the field.”

Du Preez has been handed the iconic No. 10 jersey for the 2026-27 season and could be in line to make his debut when Stellenbosch FC take on Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership on 11 August.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs expressed their gratitude to Du Preez for his dedicated service throughout the years while representing the team in their iconic gold and black colours, symbolizing the legacy and commitment he brought to the Glamour Boys.
“We extend our gratitude to Ashley for serving the Club with diligence, dedication and professionalism, and we wish him all the best in his career,” the club said in a statement.
