The Johannesburg Roads Agency(JRA) has urged road users to be cautious of wet roads resulting from weather conditions to avoid accidents and fatalities.
The rainfall that the City has been experiencing has resulted in wet and slippery roads, JRA’s Bertha Peters-Scheepers said.
“We would like to urge motorists to drive with caution, be patient and ensure safety and that of other road users by not driving recklessly and adhering to the regulations of the road as well as road signs.”
Sharing tips during rainy conditions, Peters-Scheepers emphasised that drivers should avoid driving at high speed.
She continued; “Reducing speed will greatly improve stopping distance if one need to brake suddenly.
“Maintaining a safe following distance ultimately having enough space between yourself and the motorist in front of you will prevent accidents.
“Driving with caution to avoid sudden braking, acceleration or turning as well as jerky movements.”

Peters-Scheepers added that turning on the headlights and where necessary as well well will help a driver see and it will also make one them visible to other motorists.
“Last but not least the use of wipers as this will help to improve the driver’s vision because it is hard to see objects in front of you when your vision is blurry,” she concluded.
