The Democratic Alliance has called on Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi to fulfill his promises of installing electricity transformers in Emfuleni made during his pre-elections campaign.

Picketers marched to the office of the premier on Monday to hand over a memorandum of demands.
According to DA Emfuleni North Constituency Head, Kingsol Chabalala, during the election campaign, the premier campaigned on the back of service delivery failures his government were responsible for.
He said Lesufi promised the residents of Emfuleni, repairs to faulty transformers and replacement of those that were no longer functional or reparable.
“These promises came with an official deadline. March of 2024 came, and went without any transformers being repaired or replaced.
“This coincided with a petition being heard by the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) from the residents of Emfuleni, with the same demands.
“The timeline of March 2024 was prescribed, and the Gauteng Provincial Government failed to meet it,” he explained.
Chabalala highlighted that Emfuleni residents cannot count on their local executive as there is no reason for destroying the little trust they had in the provincial executive.
He also added that they demand immediate action, seeing as these promises were made and they cannot be that hard to fulfill at this point.
DA provincial leader, Solly Msimanga, reiterated Chabalala’s sentiments by saying they expect the Gauteng executive to provide a response outlining the steps they are taking to service the residents of Emfuleni.
He stated that the party is considering all other options to force the Executives hand in this regard, and the response they receive in this regard will determine which actions they will take.

“We gave them twenty five days to respond to the memorandum, if they don’t, we will mobilise the entire Gauteng structures and chain ourselves around this building and camp here until they respond.
Msimanga assured the picketers that no households will spend Christmas in the dark.
