Police management have raised concerns over a video depicting an officer under an influence.

In a video that has been circulating on social media, the driver is seen trying to regain himself while an ice bucket with beverages lay on the floor of the passenger seat in awe of shocked community members.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo an investigation was conducted and it has been confirmed that the vehicle belongs to Etwatwa Police Station and a police constable attached to the same police station drove it.

He said; “Immediate action was taken and the member has since been charged criminally with offences that include driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving state vehicle without the owner’s consent as well as reckless and negligent driving.”

Masondo added that a departmental case has also be opened against the member.

Meanwhile, provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni lauded the community members who brought this mischievous behaviour to the attention of the police management.

“Such behaviour by the police officer will not be tolerated. Police resources, including police vehicles, are meant to serve the community and accelerate service delivery. The abuse and misuse of state resources will not be tolerated,” said Lt Gen Mthombeni.
