Zamdela drug raid nets two suspects after Thursday arrest leads to new lead

Two suspects were apprehended for drug possession in Zamdela by members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit, Section C2, operating within the Fezile Dabi District, on Friday.

According to Sergeant Josephine Rani, spokesperson for the Free State police, members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit were on duty in the Zamdela policing precinct around 14:00 when they received a tip-off from a concerned community member.

“The information indicated that a suspect, previously arrested on Thursday, was allegedly still involved in selling drugs. Members immediately proceeded to the identified house in the Angola Section, Zamdela.

“Upon arrival, they gained entry to the premises and found two men, one White male and one African male, allegedly selling drugs through a fence at the back of the house.

“The two suspects were searched, and drugs and cash were found. They were immediately arrested,” she explained.

Sgt Rani stated that a 49-year-old suspect was apprehended for drug possession.

Multiple exhibits seized in Zamdela

“During a search of the suspect’s residence, authorities seized multiple exhibits, including 33 units of crystal methamphetamine, 31 units of rock drugs, and a quantity of cash, which were reportedly concealed on the roof.

“The second suspect, aged 33, was arrested for possession of drugs. The following exhibits were found in his possession at the same address: 29 units of nyaope, one full Mandrax tablet, three half Mandrax tablets and cash.”

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of drugs.
