Law enforcement agencies has been urged to intensify efforts to reduce road accident fatalities ahead of this year’s Easter Weekend.

This given the anticipated surge in road traffic during this festive period, characterized by religious gatherings and family travel, heightened vigilance and enforcement of road safety regulations are paramount.

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety implored motorists to adhere strictly to all traffic laws and exercise caution while traveling, embracing the crucial message of “arrive alive” and refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The Committee emphasizes the collective responsibility of Gauteng residents and visitors to collaborate with Law Enforcement Agencies to ensure road safety and prevent any tragic incidents during this period.

The committee extends heartfelt wishes for a safe and peaceful Easter Weekend, particularly to the Christian Faith-Based Community observing this time of remembrance for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ,” portfolio chairperson Bandile Masuku remarked.

Meanwhile, a civilian donning traffic regalia has been arrested for impersonation and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“Whilst conducting patrols in Mabopane, The Wardens together with members of the Gauteng Traffic Police apprehended a suspicious individual wearing traffic uniform after failing to provide valid credentials.

“The suspect was charged for impersonating a traffic officer and being in possession of an illegal firearm,” read the statement.
