The EFF in Gauteng has dismissed allegations and the laying of charges against Nkululeko Dunga and termed them as baseless, opportunistic and bordering on cheap political scoring.
This comes after ActionSA in Ekurhuleni opened a case on Friday at the Germiston police station against the Red Beret provincial chairperson, who is also Finance MMC in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE).
Dunga is among several people injured after an accident on the R21 that left one person dead.
The accident happened on the R21 south just before the Pomona off-ramp on October 24. The collision involved four vehicles, one of which belonged to council.
ActionSA caucus leader Siyanda Makhubo said Dunga was being driven in a private vehicle fitted with blue lights, which contravenes several laws.
He further added that following this accident, they were reliably informed that the vehicle involved belongs to a prominent businessman.
“The businessman was recently awarded with lucrative tenders in the City, added to this, that the vehicle was fitted with state security detail including blue lights which contravenes a number of laws and policies of the City of Ekurhuleni, specifically for public office bearers.
“We deem these allegations serious and that they must be tested by the National Prosecuting Authority.

Provincial spokesperson Dumisani Baleni refuted claims that the private vehicle referred to was fitted with state security nor blue lights and that it did cause the accident on the date.
“There is an accident report elucidating this,” he said.
Baleni continued; “We take note of the fact that ActionSA and coalition partners have taken this accident as an opportunity to score political points by throwing around various allegations.
“This is one of many failed attempts to discredit the commendable work done by the party in serving the residents of the CoE.”
While the police investigate a case of culpable homicide, the circumstances of the accident remain unclear.
