New role: Mammila returns to Chippa United

Chippa United has officially announced the return of Morgan Mammila to head a new role as the first-ever football sporting director at the club.

The Gqeberha-based outfit revealed that Mammila, who resigned as head coach of Baroka FC in September 2024 rejoined the club last month without an official announcement.

“We have been working behind-the-scenes to carefully reintegrated him into the football environment after a period away from the game.

“Following a thorough evaluation, we have now formalised his appointed to lead the club’s sporting operations,” the statement read.

Outlining his responsibilities, the Chilli Boys said; “In his new role, Mammila will be responsible for overseeing the technical team, driving player recruitment, and strengthening the development and reserve team structures to create clear pathway for young talent.

“His appointment is a strategic step in ensuring continuity and alignment across all football aspects of the club, from the development level to the first team.”

September, Khenyeza to remain at their roles

The Club further confirmed that Thabo September will continue as head coach, with Mabhuti Khenyeza as an assistant coach.

“While our reserve team has faced challenges this season, the club remains committed to identifying and nurturing local talent, a key objective that Mammila will oversee as part of his mandate.

United who are lying ninth on the log table will welcome fifth placed Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership League encounter on Saturday at the Buffalo City Stadium. Kick-off is at 8pm.
