Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns coach Steve Komphela will take over the reigns at Swallows Football Club.

This follows his appointment as head coach ahead of the DStv Premiership 2023/24 season.

The Kroonstad-born mentor will be assisted by Musa Nyatama together with Ditheko Mototo.

Swallows finished the league table in eighth position under the guidance of Musa Nyatama who took over as interim coach following the departure of Ernst Middendorp in March.

The Dube Birds took to social media and announced Khompela’s arrival.

“We want to take Swallows FC to the next level and we are very excited to have attracted the service of Coach Komphela.

“We appreciate the professional manner in which Mamelodi Sundowns FC managed these negotiations.

“Coach Musa Nyatama remains a special pillar of our team and his willingness to learn and work closer with an experienced coach like Steve Komphela is highly appreciated,” Chairman David Mogashoa said.

According to Mogashoa the two coaches met last night to celebrate Komphela’s birthday.

Bidding farewell to Komphela, Mamelodi Sundowns Chairman Tlhopie Motsepe said, “Steve Komphela served Mamelodi Sundowns with loyalty and devotion and will always be a member of the Mamelodi Sundowns Family. We wish him everything of the best.”

Komphela will be formally introduced on Tuesday.
