A 32-year-old female has succumbed to smoke inhalation during a fire incident on Saturday afternoon in Turfontein, south of Johannesburg.

The City of Johannesburg emergency services says it responded to a reported incident upon arrival firefighters found a six bedroom house engulfed in flames.

“They started evacuating people who were inside the house while conducting firefighting operations. During search and rescue operation, firefighters recovered a body of a 32-year-old female who succumbed to smoke inhalation and was confirmed dead on scene by paramedics,” emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi explained.

The emergency services have already responded to other fire incidents which were reported this week in Diepsloot, Doornkop and Joburg Inner-city respectively, out of this fire incidents one life was lost in Doornkop which brings the total number of people who lost their lives in various fire incidents in the City of Johannesburg this week to two.

Mulaudzi further encouraged residents to continue to be cautious when using heating devices and not to leave them unattended while in use to prevent fire incidents at home.

No other injuries were reported during the incident. The cause of the fire is unknown.
