Five suspects have been arrested for conspiracy to commit cash-in-transit robbery in Eden Park, Ekurhuleni on Saturday.

This comes after swift response by members of the Johannesburg flying squad, Tactical response team, Johannesburg metro police department’s K9, Ekurhuleni metro police department’s STT, Gauteng traffic and Guerilla tactical services.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the team operationalised intelligence driven information about suspects who were planning a robbery in the area.

“The safe houses were identified and a take down operation was conducted. On the first house at Eden Park, five suspects were found in possession of two rifles, pistol and ammunition.

“All firearms were unlicensed. Further search led to the recovery of two vehicles which were established as hijacked after being processed.

“The team proceeded to the second safe house in Alberton and only found one vehicle which was also processed as hijacked,” she said. 

The five suspects were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of hijacked vehicles.
