According to reports, the husband allegedly stabbed and locked his wife in the house after she was reported missing on Tuesday, March 3.

Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said neither the husband nor the wife could be found in the house.

“A search was conducted for both, and on Thursday, the husband was found in Vereeniging with the assistance of the Community Police Forum.

“Upon questioning, he led the police to a stream where the victim’s body was found placed inside a recycling bag. The husband was arrested and charged with murder,” she explained.

The suspect is expected to appear before Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping, rape, and murder of a seven-year-old girl that occurred in Charl Cilliers on Sunday.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said a complaint of a missing child was received, and immediately activated units of the SAPS that included Crime Intelligence, K9 and Detectives to search for the child.

He stated that the team was joined by private security officers, farmers and members of the local Community Police Forum.

“Clothes of a missing child were found near a mealie field, leading to the suspect’s arrest. The suspect then directed police to the field where the child’s body was recovered,” Col Masondo remarked.

The suspect is expected to appear at the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Mpumalanga SAPS Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi condemned the heinous crime involving an innocent child.

He urged the investigating team and forensics to gather evidence for a decisive conviction and sentencing of the suspect.

Mkhwanazi commended the swift collaboration among police, farmers, private security, and the community for the prompt arrest and body discovery.
