According to her family, McCloy experienced heart failure and was pronounced deceased at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Tuesday evening.

Her passing signifies a significant loss for the media community, especially due to her remarkable contributions as a publicist.

She successfully built a celebrity clientele, which featured well-known figures like Thandiswa Mazwai, Sjava, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

McCloy earned recognition for her accessories fashion line, which creatively integrates traditional Tsonga, Zulu, and Ndebele beading techniques.

This approach not only highlights her commitment to preserving cultural heritage but also signifies her innovative contributions within the fashion industry.

Maria McCloy: A Life Cut Short

In a statement released announcing her passing, the family described Maria as a vibrant and creative individual who fully embraced life.

The family expressed that she was cherished not only as a DJ, publicist, and fashion designer but also by her family, friends, colleagues, and the broader community.

“Her kindness, warmth, generosity and unwavering love for those around her touched many lives and will never be forgotten. She had a special way of bringing people together and her presence brought comfort, laughter and love to all who knew her.

“She leaves behind her mother and two beloved sisters Thandiwe and Natasha, along with
countless family members and friends who are devastated by this loss.

“During this incredibly difficult and shocking time, the family humbly asks for privacy as they grieve and come to terms with their loss and kindly ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

“The family also extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, messages of support and condolences received since the news broke,” the family said in a statement.

Details regarding her memorial and funeral service will be communicated in due course.
