This initiative highlights the municipality’s commitment to addressing the critical issue of GBV and offering assistance to those affected.

The event serves as a platform for raising awareness about GBV and promoting a community-orientated approach to aid survivors, thereby fostering a more supportive environment during Women’s Month.

The event was a collaborative effort involving diverse stakeholders such as the South African Police Service (SAPS), the local Business Chamber, a skills development centre, healthcare professionals, and non-governmental organisations.

Their joint aim was to provide support and resources for survivors. Participants received motivational messages, healthcare advice and information on empowerment opportunities for personal development.

Midvaal’s unyielding campaign for women’s safety

Executive mayor Alderman Peter Teixeira emphasized Midvaal local municipality’s dedication to combating gender-based violence during his address to attendees.

“I pledge that we will continue to do more and give more so that every woman, every child and every victim of gender-based violence knows that there is support available for them.

“One victim is one too many, and one life lost is one too many. Until every person can live free from fear, our work is not done,” he remarked.

Teixeira affirmed Midvaal’s dedication to collaborating with stakeholders to combat gender-based violence, assist survivors, and foster safe communities.
