Luyanda Louis Mkaza, 44, is facing three counts of corruption.

According to Lumka Mahanjana, the National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson, on July 22, 2023, the complainant in the matter received a call from her husband who told her that he was arrested for the robbery of a motor vehicle at Meyerton Police Station.

“The complainant also spoke to the investigating officer, who introduced himself and demanded a payment of R10 000 to make the case not stand in court.

“The complainant managed to only raise R4000 that her husband left for her and met with Mkaza for payment.

Mahanjana stated that when they met, the suspect was accompanied by his wife.

She added; “The complainant promised to give Mkaza the rest of the money when the husband appeared in court on July 24, 2023.

“When the husband appeared in court on the said date, the complainant paid the R6000 balance to Mkaza while in court.

“However, after a while when the complainant realised that the husband was not being released and the matter kept on being postponed, she reported Mkaza to the Gauteng Anti-Corruption Unit.

“Mkaza was then arrested on Wednesday, September 27, at his workplace.”

The matter was remanded to Tuesday, October 31, for further investigations.
