The Border Management Authority (BMA) has informed travellers and relevant stakeholders about the temporary suspension of operations at the Qacha’s Nek Port of Entry (PoE).

This decision is a direct result of significant snowfall affecting the region between South Africa and Lesotho, which has impeded normal crossing activities.

Travellers are advised to stay updated on the situation and plan their journeys accordingly.

According to BMA Commissioner Dr. Michael Masiapato, heavy snowfall has led to unsafe weather conditions.

As a result, a temporary suspension of daily operations has been deemed necessary. This decision has been made to ensure the safety of travellers, staff, and the entire border management community involved in the value chain.

Alternative port of entry

“The decision to temporarily suspend operations as a precautionary measure was taken in consultation with our counterparts in Lesotho. Travellers and commercial operators are advised to postpone their travel where possible.

“Alternatively, travellers can use Telle Bridge PoE, which is located approximately 190 kilometres away. The BMA will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as conditions improve,” he remarked.

Dr Masiapato urged the public to exercise caution and adhere to all official advisories.
