Rodgers, 55, appeared in the Jacobsdal Magistrates’ Court in the Free State on Thursday.

According to police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle, on February 17, 2022, a man was arrested for dealing in dagga in Jacobsdal.

“The dagga and money to the value of R2 460 were booked in for evidence.

“After the arrested man’s case was finalised in court, he went back to the police station to get his property, but could not find the money.

“The Station Commander was allegedly the last person to sign as the recipient of the money in the evidence register,” she said.

Earle stated Rodgers was arrested after the docket was sent for decision to the Department of Public Prosecution.

He was released on a warning and will be back in court on Tuesday, October 31.

He will also face internal disciplinary action following a directive from the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Baile Motswenyane.

Meanwhile, a foreign national was sentenced to three years imprisonment for illegal possession of non-ferrous metals by the Kroonstad Regional Court, Free State.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Zweli Mohobeleli said Ghanaian Alex Tweneboa, 37, received a surprise visit from members of Serious Organised Crime at his business site on January 5, 2022.

“This was after they had received information that he was operating a scrap yard. They had successfully secured a search and seizure warrant which they executed with the local police.

“They were searching around the premises when they discovered copper cable hidden on the roof.

“The non-ferrous metal, which was positively identified as belonging to Transnet, was estimated at about R280 000,” he stated.

Mohobeleli added that Tweneboa was immediately arrested and later released on a R2 000 bail.
