Helen Joseph and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child health care facilities in Johannesburg owes City Power a combined R30 million in total.

The power utility confirmed that Helen Joseph Hospitals’ debt is over R23 million, while Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital owes over R7 million.

“The executives of the two institutions who were served with pre-termination notices told our officials that they have already started the process of clearing their debts.

“In our visit, we made it clear that failure to pay in the next two weeks will result in immediate cut-offs,” read a statement.

City Power said it is concerned with the levels of non-payment from government institutions.

“Government properties across the City owe over half a billion rand and we will be clamping down on these defaulters as we intensify our revenue collection drive.

“This is also an opportunity to remind other customers to come to us to settle their bills before we pay them an unpleasant visit.”

According to City Power, these weekly cut-off operations across the City of Johannesburg are aimed at sending a strong message to defaulters that the utility will not tolerate non-payment.

“It is also an opportunity for City Power to recover the revenue it needs to continue to provide essential services to the City’s residents and businesses.”
