Basic education department rubbishes reports of leaked exam papers

The department of basic education has rubbished reports suggesting matric examination questions papers have leaked.

According to the department, the social media posts are fake, misleading and seek to cause unnecessary confusion and panic.

It further said the examinations are proceeding well without any major incidents reported.

“We wish to reassure the national senior certificate candidates that there have been no examinations paper leaks nor announcement about any rewrite of any papers whatsoever,” the departmental spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga expressed.

He stated that minister Angie Motshekga has made no such announcement about any incident related to examinations and that the social media posts are a pure fabrication that are malicious.

Mhlanga added; “The department can confirm that week three of the exam concludes on Friday and since the start of the examinations no serious irregularities have occured.

“This implies that the measures put in place to secure the examinations are working well thus far.

“A total of 136 of the 231 question papers have already been written and today(Friday) is day 15 of the 28 day examination period”.
