Unknown body found floating in the Vaal River

The body of an unknown African male was found floating in the Vaal River on Thursday morning, Sasolburg police said.

According to police spokesperson sergeant Josephine Rani, a passer-by reported the incident to the police.

She further added that their members attended to the complaint and on arrival they noticed an unknown man estimated to be between the ages of 70 and 75.

“When the body was retrieved, he was wearing a brown pull over, blue overall jacket, black trouser and red t-shirt floating on the river.

“The deceased had a small beard, with two silver round earrings and one of his pinkie fingers is amputated,” Rani stated.

The police has sought public assistance in tracing the next of kin.

Anyone who matches this description or who has a missing family member is requested to contact the police.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old suspect was arrested for dealing in dagga at Universitas in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Thabo Covane said they received information about drugs being sold at a food trailer situated in Groenewoudt Street next to the Student House.

He added; “The team arrived at the trailer at about 2pm and conducted a search. A total of eight large zip lock plastics; 28 small packages; 27 joints of dagga, rizla paper and cash were found and confiscated.”

A case of dealing in dagga was then opened at Parkweg police station.

The suspect will appear in Bloemfontein magistrate court soon.
