Gauteng police have responded to a circulating video in which a traffic officer accuses the Douglasdale police station of refusing to book recovered stolen goods on the SAP 13.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the station was not refusing to book the goods but rather advising that the goods be returned to the lawful owner through SAP 299 since the owner had already been identified.
She further said this procedure is lawful and part exhibit management and that the matter has since been handled as such.
“Four suspects have been arrested and three are expected to appear at Kempton Park Magistrates’ court on a charge of truck hijacking while the one suspect is expected to appear before Randburg Magistrates’ court on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property on 15 January 2024,” Col Nevhuhulwi added.
Meanwhile, a 31-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate Court on Monday on charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearm.
He was arrested by Inanda field work team on Thursday.
“On November 28, 2023 Warrant Officer Phumlani Jali who was attached to Crime Intelligence was at his place of residence when he was shot at multiple times by the suspect.

“He was taken to hospital for medical attention and later died due to his injuries.
“A case of murder was reported at Inanda police station and docket was allocated to Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation.
“Members worked together with Crime Intelligence and the suspect was identified. On Saturday, members were alerted about his arrest and he was charged for murder.
“The firearm will be sent for ballistic test to ascertain if it was used in the commission of any crime in the country,” Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo stated.
