A baby has died whilst four people sustained injuries following a motor vehicle collision in Vereeniging on Saturday night.

According to Community Emergency Response Team(Cert-SA), their Vaal crew received a call and responded to a motor vehicle collision on the corner of Rhodes and Union Street at around 19:45.
“Upon arrival, we found a vehicle that had hit a cyclist and then veered off the road, hitting a light pole and almost ending up in a car dealership.
“There were a total of five patients on scene, of which one was a baby. All patients were assessed and treated on scene. One patient sustained serious injuries while three others sustained moderate injuries.
“Unfortunately, the baby passed due to the extent of his injuries and was declared dead on scene. All patients were loaded into various ambulances and transported to nearby facilities,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal have conveyed message of comfort to members of the Inkatha Freedom Party(IFP) involved in a bus accident.

At least 36 people were injured when three buses ferrying people to the IFP’s election manifesto launch to Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban were involved in an accident on the N2 near Gingindlovu on Sunday morning.Â
“Our hearts are with those who were unfortunately injured, and we wish them a speedy recovery,” remarked ANC Provincial Secretary Bheki Mtolo.
Mtolo stated that deputy chairperson Nomagugu Simelane, in her capacity as Health MEC, and deputy secretary Sipho Hlomuka, in his capacity as Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, MEC have activated their respective teams of dedicated professionals.

He added; “A team of healthcare professionals will ensure that quality healthcare is provided to the injured. On the other hand, traffic authorities will investigate the circumstances surrounding this accident.
“Where necessary, the Social Development MEC, Nonhlanhla Khoza, will ensure that psychological trauma counseling is provided by social workers to the injured and surviving members.”
