Police have launched a manhunt for at least twelve suspects following an attempt to enter a police forensic facility in Silverton, Pretoria, on Sunday night.

It is reported that the suspects who were wearing police uniforms and travelling in a white ford ranger bakkie with no registration number tied up all security on duty.

Suspects went to building Block D: bombed a safe with drugs inside, but they didn’t manage to get inside the safe.

Two police officer from next door heard the noise and went to check. Suspects opened  fire.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the motive for the attempt to enter the building is under investigation.

“Police officers who were on patrol foiled the attempt to enter the building. During confrontation, one member, a constable was shot and wounded during the attack.

“He has been taken to hospital for medical care. Nothing was taken and stolen from the building,” Brig Mathe said.

She further revealed that the SAPS has set aside R25 million this financial year for security upgrades at all its buildings.
