Law enforcement agencies have been commended for the arrest of seven suspects following the robbery at a jewellery shop in Clearwater Mall, Roodepoort, on Tuesday.

The police also recovered four firearms from the suspects after two police officers and three suspects were injured during the shootout.
One police officer was treated at the scene while the other police officer was taken to a local medical care centre in a serious but stable condition.
According to police report, eight armed suspects stormed into a shop and held the employees at gunpoint before robbing the shop of a substantial amount of jewellery.
“As they were leaving the mall, they were intercepted by the police and private security officers.
The suspects started shooting at the law enforcement officers, and a shootout ensued. Four suspects were cornered and arrested at Christiaan Dewet Road, just opposite the mall,” the statement read.
Police minister, Senzo Mchunu, highlighted that this operation reflects the exceptional collaboration between the SAPS and metro police in combating crime.
He said the swift action of all law enforcement agencies has once again shown their commitment to safeguarding communities.
“This incident demonstrates that we are on the right path, as evidenced by the quick turnaround time in apprehending the suspects and the effective use of resources via the SAPS and provincial government choppers.
“The determination and bravery displayed by the officers, even in the face of armed resistance, is highly commendable.
“The recovery of the stolen jewellery, along with the arrests made, underscores our resolve to strengthen the implementation of measures aimed at reducing serious crimes.
“We remain dedicated to reinforcing these efforts and ensuring that our communities feel safer and protected,” the minister said.

Mchunu stated that they hope that this serves as a stern warning to those who threaten the safety and security of the people that criminal activities will be met with decisive action by law enforcement.
He added; “We are determined to strengthen our efforts in ensuring that law enforcement remains effective and vigilant, working towards a future where such incidents are a rare occurrence.
“We extend our best wishes to the two injured police officers, and we commend their courage and sacrifice. Our thoughts are with them as they recover, and we wish them a speedy return to full health.”
