Police in Gauteng have launched an investigation for four counts of murder and attempted murder following a shooting incident that took placed in Lenasia South, on Wednesday morning.

According to police provincial spokesperson, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) responded to a shooting complaint along the K43 road.
Adding that upon arrival, they found three vehicles with multiple bullet holes and four deceased men with gunshot wounds.
“A fifth man, suspected to be involved in the incident, was found hiding in a toilet with bullet wounds. He was arrested for possession of a firearm, after a firearm was discovered in his possession, with the serial number filed off. The suspect was arrested and is receiving medical attention under police guard,” he said.
Sibeko revealed that one of the deceased was found lying in a trench with a firearm in the hand.
He continued; “The motive behind the shooting is currently unknown and investigations continue. We urge anyone who may have information that can assist with the investigation to contact the Crime Stop or anonymously give tip-offs on MySAPS App.”
CIT robbers murdered in a shootout
Meanwhile, five suspected cash in transit robbers were fatally wounded during a shootout with police at Ridgeview near Chesterville on Wednesday afternoon.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, confirmed that the robbers were wanted for a string of cash in transit robberies, including the one which happened on Monday, 31 March 2025 in KwaMashu.

He stated that police were conducting an operation after gathering information that the suspects were planning to commit yet another cash in transit robbery in the vicinity of the iLembe District.
“Police visibility in the area disturbed the suspects’ mission and intelligence located the suspects in Ridgeview.
“Our members identified the suspects’ vehicle and as they approached it, the suspects opened fire towards the police and a shootout ensued.

“During the shootout, all five suspects were shot and fatally wounded. Four firearms were found in the possession of the suspects,” he explained.
Netshiunda added; “The suspects were from the Gauteng province and one of them is believed to be a kingpin who was behind several cash in transit robberies around the country. The operation continues in search of other suspects.”
