These vehicles were impounded from Friday until Tuesday with majority found operating in Johannesburg Central Business District, Braamfontein, Westbury and Noordgesig areas.
The Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Sello Maremane said most of these drivers abandoned their vehicles and disappeared after being stopped in their tracks by officers.Â
“In terms of the national land transport act no person shall undertake a public transport service without an operating license or permit,” he explained.
Maremane appealed to the operators to ensure that they have valid operating licenses as they conduct their work. Â

He continued; “We call upon the owners to refrain from using these vehicles as public transport without valid operating licenses. This kind of practice may also lead to taxi conflict which often result in loss of lives”.
Maremane added that they will continue to act without fear or favour against any person disobeying the rules and regulations of the road.

“Anyone found to engage in these illegal practices will be brought to book to face the full might of law,” he concluded Sello.
