South Africa’s workers in the glass sector will receive a six-percent salary increase effective from July 1, the General Industries Workers Union(Giwusa) confirmed.
The union said the agreement is the result of joined efforts where they were able to find common ground with the employer.
Giwusa’s spokesperson, Koketso Phasha said this increase will be on the basis of the average Consumer Price Index plus 0.5-percent with a floor of 6-percent and a ceiling of 7-percent.
Phasha highlighted that workers are the only real producers of wealth in society and deserve their fair share of it.
“In money terms workers will see their wages move from R7 860 to R8 331 from July 2024 until June 2025, this is the second annual increase of the three year long agreement,” remarked Phasha.

Phasha added that Giwusa remains determined in fighting slave wages that has condemned the vast majority of workers in this country to a life of poverty and indignity.
