A 34-year-old Orange Farm police officer is facing serious charges at the Sebokeng Magistrates’ Court.

The allegations include murder, attempted murder, illegal handling of a firearm while intoxicated, and discharging a firearm in a public area.
According to the police report, on Saturday morning, Detective Constable Elias Moeketsi Pinkoane went to BK Lifestyle in Sebokeng to purchase chicken gizzards. Upon arrival, he was informed that the chicken gizzards had been sold out.
“He allegedly asked the vendor who had purchased the last portion, and the vendor pointed out a customer. The accused then approached the customer, and an argument ensued between the two men.
“During the altercation, the customer reportedly offered the accused one skewer of chicken gizzards. However, the accused allegedly demanded additional portions for his girlfriend, which the customer refused,” said National Prosecuting authority (NPA) communications officer Tshegofatso Makhudu.

She stated that the accused approached a state vehicle, accessed a firearm from inside through the window, and discharged the weapon towards a customer and multiple bystanders in close proximity before subsequently escaping the scene.
Makhudu continued, “Police officers who were patrolling the area responded to the incident. The victim’s brother was declared dead at the scene, while other victims who sustained injuries were transported to the hospital for medical treatment.”
