Alleged couple killer abandons bail

A 37-year-old man accused of killing a couple has abandoned his bail application during his appearance at the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Samuel Masemola, a resident of Pretoria West, is facing charges of two counts of murder in connection with the killing of a couple, Gratitude Maluleke and Arnold Andzani Mashaba.

According to Lumka Mahanjana, Gauteng regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Masemola is also facing a charge of attempted murder.

“It is alleged that in the early hours of October 15, Masemola was driving out of the parking lot of Blue Room nightclub, in Pretoria Central and nearly ran over the female deceased, who was standing with her husband and their friend.

“Thereafter, it is alleged that the husband and the friend stopped the vehicle and started to argue with the accused.

“During the argument, Masemola took out a gun from the boot of his vehicle and started shooting at the victims. Both victims died on the scene, while a friend managed to run away but sustained gunshot wounds to his leg.

She added; “On November 13, police received a tip of Masemola’s whereabouts, thereafter they called him to come to the Pretoria Magistrates Court, where he was pointed out by the complainant and was subsequently arrested.”

The matter has been postponed to Monday, December 11, for court allocation.
