Three suspects nabbed were by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) for armed robbery in Lenasia Saturday evening.

According to a report, Region G Operations officers were conducting a vehicle checkpoint on the R554 near the Rietfontein fire station when they were alerted to an armed robbery in progress occurring in the nearby bushes.
“Back-up was immediately requested, and officers located the victim, who confirmed he had been robbed by three men carrying a firearm and a large knife. The victim’s cell-phone had been stolen.
“Following a search of the area, our officers located three suspects. During their apprehension, no firearm was found on the suspects, but officers recovered two large knives and the victim’s stolen cellphone,” JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed.

He added that the three individuals were arrested and a case of armed robbery and possession of dangerous weapons was opened at Lenasia police station.
Fihla commended the swift action of the officers and thanked the vigilant member of the public for their assistance, which led to the successful arrest and recovery of stolen property.
Over thirty people nabbed during Operation Shanela
Meanwhile, thirty-three people were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol during the Operation Shanela led by the Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni in Sebokeng on Saturday night.

The team, also arrested four suspects for dealing in drugs and closed down four liquor outlets that are operating without a license.
