Bogus traffic officers who allegedly hijacked trucks wearing uniform were arrested by the Hawks multidisciplinary team in Gauteng.

The Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section, Falcon Risk Solutions, Tracker Connect, Traffic Police Saturation Unit, Traffic Police Chopper and Insurance Crime Bureau executed an operation following reports of truck-hijackings in the province.
According to the Hawks spokesperson Colonel Philani Nkwalase, the multidisciplinary team’s meticulous investigation was hot on the hills of the bogus Gauteng Traffic Officers who were hijacking trucks while in the guise of conducted random vehicle check points wearing full traffic uniform. Â
“On Friday, the suspects were spotted driving toward Atteridgeville, Pretoria West. The joint police team managed to stop and apprehend the duo, both dressed in full Gauteng Traffic uniform as they attempted to evade arrest.

“Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, an unlicensed firearm with ammunition, signal jammer, blue lights, SAPS issue firearms holsters, false government number plates and more traffic uniform were seized,” he said.

Col Nkwalase revealed that the suspects are linked to a spree of truck hi-jacking in Gauteng.
They will appear in the Pretoria Magistrates’ court on Monday.
