The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has warned resident about a recent advertisement making the rounds on social media regarding a learnership.

In clarify the matter, the department distanced itself from what it called misleading advertisement depicting a picture of JMPD officers and a vehicle and said it is not associated with it.

“The department wishes to emphasize that this advertisement is a misrepresentation and does not accurately reflect the current state of the JMPD,” spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla confirmed.

He highlighted that the department is currently engaged in an internal training course to transition traffic wardens into metro police officers.

Fihla added; “This process is being undertaken to enhance the department’s capabilities and better serve the citizens of Johannesburg.

“We encourage the public to be vigilant and to verify the authenticity of any job advertisements claiming to be from the department.

“Official announcements regarding vacancies will always be made through the City of Johannesburg’s official channels, including its website and media platforms.”

Meanwhile, police have arrested a 44-year-old male for possession of nineteen gold bearing amalgam on Kopanong Mine premises and seized fifty-two bottles of BronCleer Cough Syrup.

According to Free State police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, large amount of cash believed to be proceeds of crime was also found inside the hostel unit where the suspect resides.

He stated that further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect who was in possession of contraband goods and buff tape rolls used to attach the smuggled items on the body underneath the clothing. 

“Cases of possession of gold bearing amalgam and possession of presumably stolen property, contravention of medicines and controlled substances act with an added charge of conspiracy to commit crime were opened at Vierfontein Police Station,” he said.

Suspects will appear before different courts soon.
